Newmarket. Ontario's Derrick Tiemersma is no rookie to the world of motorsports.

Since his racing debut in 1986, Derrick has steadily and successfully climbed the racing ladder. 1999 will be Derrick's second full year on the CASCAR Castrol Super Series tour, having won the "Eastern Rookie of the Year" in 1998.

TIEMERSMA MOTORSPORTS have two goals for the upcoming season, and that is to move up in the point standings from last years 13th place and have at least one podium finish.

Career Highlights

1986-90 Raced in 200 lap Enduro races.

1991 Entered the Thunder Car division, and placed 4th over-all.

1992 Advanced to Challenger division, placed 8th over-all and won "Rookie of the Year" honors.

1993 Won Challenger division Championship and 6th in the Goodyear Challenge Cup.

1994 Moved up to Late Model Sportsman, placed 4th over-all and won "Rookie of the Year" honors.

1995 Placed 2nd in a very competitive Late Model Sportsman division.

1996 Competed in the Late Model Sportsman Series only, won 3 races and was named the most consistent driver.

1997 Entered the CASCAR CASTROL SUPER SERIES, and had 3 top 10's in only 4 starts. Also won a qualifying heat race at Peterborough. Top qualifying and finishing rookie in all events entered.

1998 "Gates Eastern Series Rookie of the Year" and finished 13th in point standings. Completed 98.7% of laps available and finished 2nd at the Ford 300 Pit Stop Competition in Hamilton.

Q: What do you enjoy doing when not racing?
A: Derrick likes spending time with his daughter Brianna 10mon.
Watching any racing mostly NASCAR .Spend time with friends and family.

Q: What do you do one the off season?
A: Catch up on things around the house. Off season is short as we do not have a sponsor and do most of the work
ourselves.

Q: Who's Your Favorite Race Car Driver?
A: 33 Schrader 5 Labonte

Q: Do you watch a lot of car racing on TV
A: As much as his schedule lets him , mostly just the CUP races.

Q: What is your favorite track to race at and why?
A: Cayuga, It is fast and has some good area's to pass, Derrick has won there in other divisions, but he has also
crashed there too. Peterboro & Fredricton, small tight & fast, most drivers like the big track Derrrick loves the small
ones.
