The
sport of stock car racing is
growing by leaps throughout North
America. The only truly
Canada wide sanctioning body in
this sport is CASCAR. The
Canadian Association for Stock
Car Auto Racing. was
founded in 1981 unifying the
track level activities, whose
growth potential was limited,
into a successful professional
business offering high-class
entertainment. The elite of
the elite is the CASTROL
Superseries. The national
twelve race series this year
spanned from the Molson Indy at
Trois Rivier, Quebec to the
Molson Indy in Vancouver, British
Columbia. The total
attendance exceeded a quarter of
a million fans. A second
western series is also run and
although the fan base was not as
high it was certainly still
impressive.
The other touring series is that
of the CARQUEST Sportsman which
run eighteen races between tracks
in Montreal Quebec, Ottawa
Ontario, and Delaware, located in
southwestern Ontario. These
are local racers whose fans turn
out on a weekly basis to cheer
their favorite drivers on. High
numbers of fans travel between
the tracks, showing their
dedication to the drivers.
CASCAR sanctions local level
racing that includes the most
entry-level classes. Cars
and drivers maintain an air of
professionalism, no matter what
the class, due to high integrity
and close inspection of the
sanctioning body CASCAR.
